Getting Started
What is WhoSaidWhat?
WhoSaidWhat is a tool for importing, tracking, and analyzing your Reddit activity. It pulls your posts and comments from Reddit, organizes them into a filterable dashboard, and uses AI to generate detailed analysis reports about your engagement patterns.
How do I create an account?
Visit the registration page and enter your email address and a password. You will receive a verification email — click the link in that email to activate your account. Once verified, you can log in and start adding Reddit connections.
What happens after I sign up?
After verifying your email, log in and you will be taken to the Connections page. From there, add your Reddit username to begin importing your activity. WhoSaidWhat will automatically fetch your posts and comments.
How do I set my primary Reddit account?
On the Connections page, click the star icon next to the Reddit username you want as your primary. Your primary account determines which dashboard and analysis views load by default when you log in.
Do I need a Reddit account to use WhoSaidWhat?
You do not need to log into Reddit through WhoSaidWhat. The tool fetches publicly available data from Reddit usernames you provide. You just need to know the Reddit username you want to track.
What are the different pages in WhoSaidWhat?
WhoSaidWhat has several main pages: the WhoSaidWhat dashboard (your activity cards), Analysis (AI-generated reports), Connections (manage tracked accounts and subreddits), Account (subscription and settings), and the Why/Tech informational pages.
Can I use WhoSaidWhat on mobile?
Yes. WhoSaidWhat is fully responsive and works on phones, tablets, and desktops. The interface adapts to your screen size, though the full desktop experience offers the most screen real estate for browsing your dashboard.
Is there a free tier?
Yes. The Light tier is free and lets you import a limited number of posts and comments. This is a great way to explore WhoSaidWhat before deciding to upgrade to Viewer or Max for higher limits and additional features.
Reddit Connections
How do I add a Reddit user to track?
On the Connections page, type a Reddit username into the "Add User" field and click Add. WhoSaidWhat will begin importing that user's publicly available posts and comments. The import runs automatically and shows progress as it fetches data.
Can I track subreddits?
Yes. On the Connections page you can also add subreddits to track. This lets you monitor activity in specific communities, see posting patterns, and understand engagement across different subreddits.
How does WhoSaidWhat fetch Reddit data?
WhoSaidWhat uses Reddit's public API with automatically generated OAuth tokens. It fetches data in paginated requests with built-in rate limiting to comply with Reddit's API guidelines. No Reddit login credentials are ever needed or stored.
What data does an import pull?
Each import fetches posts and comments including: the title, body text, score (upvotes minus downvotes), subreddit, timestamp, permalink, and whether the content has been removed or deleted. All data is linked back to the original Reddit source.
How often should I re-import?
There is no automatic schedule — you trigger imports manually. Re-importing will fetch any new activity since your last import. For active accounts, importing every few days keeps your dashboard current. The import is incremental and skips already-fetched items.
Can I track multiple Reddit accounts?
Yes. You can add as many Reddit usernames as your tier allows. Each account gets its own dashboard view. Switch between accounts using the Choose button in the navigation bar, or set one as your primary for quick access.
How do I remove a tracked account?
On the Connections page, find the account you want to remove and click the delete button. This will remove the account and all its imported data from WhoSaidWhat. This action cannot be undone.
What if a Reddit account is private or suspended?
WhoSaidWhat can only fetch publicly available data. If a Reddit account is set to private, suspended, or deleted, the import will return limited or no results. The tool will still create the connection but may not find any content to import.
WhoSaidWhat Dashboard
What are the cards on the dashboard?
Each card represents a single Reddit post or comment. Cards show the title (for posts) or a preview of the comment text, the subreddit it was posted in, the score, the date, and the item type. Cards are color-coded and tagged for easy scanning.
How do I filter my dashboard?
Use the filter controls at the top of the dashboard. You can filter by item type (posts vs comments), by subreddit, by date range, and by score. Filters combine — so you can see only comments in a specific subreddit with a score above a threshold.
How does sorting work?
You can sort your dashboard cards by date (newest or oldest first), by score (highest or lowest), or by subreddit name. The default sort is newest first. Sorting works in combination with any active filters.
What do the stats at the top mean?
The stats row shows aggregate numbers: total posts, total comments, unique subreddits, total score, and the date of your last import. These update automatically as you import new data and reflect all non-removed items.
What does the [removed] tag mean?
Items tagged as [removed] were deleted by Reddit moderators after being posted. WhoSaidWhat preserves a record that the item existed, including its metadata, even though the original content may no longer be visible on Reddit.
What does "deleted by user" mean?
This indicates the Reddit user themselves deleted the post or comment. WhoSaidWhat tracks that the item existed and records the deletion, which can be useful for understanding your content management patterns.
Can I edit items on the dashboard?
You can add notes and tags to items using the inline edit feature. Click on a card to expand it, then use the edit controls. You cannot modify the original Reddit content — WhoSaidWhat is a read-only mirror of your Reddit activity.
How do I collapse or expand cards?
Click on any card to toggle its expanded view. In the expanded view you can see the full text, all metadata, and any notes you have added. The collapse state is remembered during your session.
Analysis
What is the Analysis feature?
Analysis uses Claude AI (by Anthropic) to generate a comprehensive prose report about your Reddit activity. It examines your posting patterns, subreddit strategy, content performance, and provides actionable recommendations — all written as flowing editorial text, not bullet points.
What sections does the analysis report cover?
The report includes: Activity Overview (cadence and rhythm), Subreddit Strategy (where you post and ROI), Wasted Effort (low-return communities), High-Value Channels (where you get traction), Content Analysis (what works), Recommended Subreddits, Learning Activity, and Action Items.
How do I generate an analysis?
Navigate to the Analysis page for a tracked account. Click the Analyze button. The AI will process all your imported data and generate a report. This can take 30-60 seconds depending on the amount of data. The report is cached so subsequent views load instantly.
Can I re-run the analysis?
Yes. If you have imported new data since your last analysis, the page will show a "Data has changed" indicator. Click Analyze again to generate a fresh report based on your updated activity.
What are the analysis settings?
Click the gear icon next to the Analyze button to access settings. You can provide context about your goals, interests, and what you want the analysis to focus on. This context is sent to the AI along with your data to produce more relevant insights.
Is my data sent to a third party for analysis?
Yes. Your Reddit activity data (which is already publicly available on Reddit) is sent to Anthropic's Claude API for analysis. No personally identifiable information beyond your Reddit username and public posts is transmitted. Anthropic does not use API data for training.
Why does my analysis say "stale"?
An analysis becomes stale when you import new Reddit data after the report was generated. The existing report is still viewable, but it does not reflect your latest activity. Click Analyze to regenerate with current data.
How accurate is the AI analysis?
The analysis is generated by a large language model and should be treated as informed commentary, not definitive truth. It excels at identifying patterns and trends but may occasionally misinterpret context. Use it as a starting point for your own reflection.
Account & Billing
What are the available tiers?
WhoSaidWhat offers three tiers: Light (free, limited imports), Viewer (expanded limits for posts, comments, and subreddits), and Max (the highest limits available). Each tier unlocks progressively more data capacity.
What does the Light (free) tier include?
The Light tier allows you to import a small number of posts and comments to try the platform. It is designed to give you a feel for WhoSaidWhat before committing to a paid plan. Subreddit tracking is not available on the free tier.
What does the Viewer tier include?
The Viewer tier significantly increases your post and comment import limits and unlocks subreddit tracking. It is ideal for active Reddit users who want a comprehensive view of their engagement across multiple communities.
What does the Max tier include?
The Max tier offers the highest (or unlimited) import limits for posts, comments, and subreddits. It is designed for power users, researchers, or anyone who needs full access to their complete Reddit history.
How do I upgrade my plan?
Go to the Account page and click the upgrade button for the plan you want. You will be redirected to a secure Stripe checkout page to enter your payment details. Once payment is confirmed, your tier upgrades immediately.
How does billing work?
WhoSaidWhat uses Stripe for all billing. Subscriptions are monthly and renew automatically. You can view your current plan, subscription status, and renewal date on the Account page.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes. You can cancel at any time through Stripe's customer portal or by contacting support. When you cancel, your plan remains active until the end of the current billing period, then reverts to the Light tier.
Is there a refund policy?
Since WhoSaidWhat operates on a monthly subscription model, you can cancel at any time to prevent future charges. Refunds for the current billing period are handled on a case-by-case basis. Contact support if you have billing concerns.
Data & Privacy
What data does WhoSaidWhat store?
WhoSaidWhat stores your account email, hashed password, subscription details, and the Reddit activity you import (posts, comments, scores, subreddits, timestamps, permalinks). All Reddit data is sourced from publicly available information.
Does WhoSaidWhat store my Reddit password?
Absolutely not. WhoSaidWhat never asks for, receives, or stores your Reddit login credentials. Data is fetched using Reddit's public API with automatically generated OAuth tokens that do not require your Reddit password.
How do OAuth tokens work?
WhoSaidWhat automatically generates OAuth tokens using Reddit's public API client flow. These tokens are short-lived, stored encrypted in the database, and automatically refreshed when needed. You never need to manually manage tokens.
Is my data encrypted?
Your password is hashed using bcrypt (industry standard). Database connections use secure credentials. All web traffic is served over HTTPS with SSL certificates. Session cookies are HTTP-only with strict SameSite policies.
Can other users see my data?
No. Your WhoSaidWhat data is private to your account. Other users cannot see your tracked accounts, imported data, or analysis reports. Admin access is separately authenticated and limited to site operations.
How long is my data retained?
Your data is retained as long as your account is active. If you delete a tracked Reddit account from WhoSaidWhat, all associated imported data is permanently removed via database cascade. Account deletion removes all your data.
Is WhoSaidWhat affiliated with Reddit?
No. WhoSaidWhat is an independent tool not affiliated with Reddit, Inc. All data is sourced from publicly available information and provided as-is. All posts and comments in WhoSaidWhat link back to their original Reddit source.
Troubleshooting
My import seems stuck or is taking too long.
Reddit enforces strict rate limits on API requests. WhoSaidWhat spaces requests to comply with these limits, which means large imports can take several minutes. If an import appears frozen for more than 5 minutes, try refreshing the page and re-triggering the import.
Why are some posts or comments missing?
WhoSaidWhat can only fetch what Reddit's API returns. If content was deleted, removed by moderators, or if the account has more history than Reddit's API pagination allows (roughly the last 1000 items), some items may not appear.
I am getting a "rate limit" error.
Reddit limits how frequently API requests can be made. If you see this error, wait a minute or two before trying again. WhoSaidWhat includes automatic delays between requests, but rapid repeated actions can still trigger Reddit's limits.
The Reddit account I added shows no data.
This usually means the account has no public posts or comments, the username is misspelled, the account is suspended or deleted, or the account is set to private. Double-check the username and ensure it has public activity on Reddit.
My analysis failed to generate.
Analysis failures are typically caused by temporary API issues with the AI provider. Wait a moment and try again. If the problem persists, check that you have imported data for the account — analysis requires at least some posts or comments to work with.
I cannot log in to my account.
Ensure you are using the correct email and password. If you have forgotten your password, use the password reset flow. If your account is unverified, check your email for the verification link — it may be in your spam folder.
The page looks broken or unstyled.
Try a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R) to clear cached CSS. WhoSaidWhat is designed for modern browsers — ensure you are using a recent version of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.
My subscription did not activate after payment.
Stripe webhook processing typically completes within seconds, but occasionally there can be a short delay. Refresh your Account page after a minute. If your tier still has not updated, contact support with your payment confirmation email.
Tips & Best Practices
How can I get the most out of WhoSaidWhat?
Import your data regularly to keep your dashboard current. Use the Analysis feature after each import to track how your engagement evolves over time. Set a primary account for quick access and explore the filter and sort options to find patterns.
How should I use the analysis context fields?
The analysis context fields let you tell the AI about your goals, target audiences, and interests. Be specific — instead of "I want more engagement," try "I am a developer sharing open-source projects in r/webdev and r/programming and want to increase comment quality."
Is tracking multiple accounts useful?
Yes. If you have different Reddit accounts for different purposes (personal, professional, niche interests), tracking them separately gives you distinct dashboards and analyses. You can switch between them to see each account's unique patterns.
What should I look for in my dashboard?
Pay attention to score distribution across subreddits — it reveals where your content resonates. Look for time patterns in when your high-scoring content was posted. Notice which subreddits you post in most versus which give you the best return.
How do I interpret the Analysis report?
Read the report as editorial commentary, not absolute truth. The most valuable sections are usually Subreddit Strategy (where to focus) and Wasted Effort (where to stop). The Action Items section gives you concrete next steps to try.
When should I re-run the analysis?
Re-run after every significant import — at minimum, whenever the "Data has changed" indicator appears. Running analysis frequently lets you track whether changes in your posting behavior are producing better results over time.
Can I use WhoSaidWhat for subreddit research?
Yes. By adding subreddits to track, you can monitor community activity and understand posting patterns within specific communities. This is useful for deciding where to participate and what kind of content performs well in each subreddit.
What does a good Reddit engagement pattern look like?
Consistency matters more than volume. Regular participation in a focused set of subreddits, with thoughtful comments and well-timed posts, tends to build karma and reputation faster than sporadic posting across many communities.
